Professor Peter Hoj has selected as new Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Queensland. Professor Høj is the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of South Australia as well as his earlier roles includes Managing Director of the Australian Wine Research Institute and Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Research Council.
Professor Høj was elected from a highly-competitive field of contenders. University of Queensland Chancellor John Story congratulated him, saying that he will continue to build momentum of University of Queensland as a leader in discovery and learning that have far-reaching impacts.
He has outstanding credentials to guide a large and complex organization that collaborates and competes in global research and learning, and that has wide links with industry, government and non-government partners. Professor Hoj will enlarge a ritual of Vice-Chancellors who have prominent international and national stature of University of Queensland and have overseen wonderful contributions to Queensland, international and Australian communities.
Mr Story said that, in this view, he really thank Professor Debbie Terry, who is offering precious leadership as a Vice-Chancellor, as well as has been a major contributor to academic direction of University of Queensland for several years. Professor Terry will continue as a Vice-Chancellor until Mr. Peter Hoj commences and he look ahead to her ongoing headship of the University.
Commencement date of Professor Hoj is yet to be determined. He said that, he was honored to be granted the chance to lead a research-intensive institute of University of Queensland’s stature.
He said that, he look ahead to working with University of Queensland staff, alumni and students to further develop the University's already exceptional worldwide reputation for research, learning as well as outreach activities across a complete spectrum of educational disciplines.
