Qld Government to Sack 2000 Jobs in Transport Revamps

Under the alterations, TransLink will no longer run as a statutory authority, which confined to the southeast of the state, and will be captivated into the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Scott Emerson, Transport Minister said that it would still manage the qconnect bus network, school bus services and TravelTrain services, along with subsidized regional airline, ferry and coach services.

He told parliament recently that, all Queensland government traveler transport services will be included for the first time under the Translink standard. No longer there will be 2 separate government agencies ... performing the same job in different regions of the state. These were the kind of extra costs which Labor was conveying to passengers. Mr. Emerson said that the TransLink board will be stop and the department will remain in 5 divisions with the number of senior executives hacked by nearly half from 37 to 21.

Parliament of Queensland can Block Access to Public Gallery by Protesters

Speaker Fiona Simpson has moved to disallow activists from entering in public gallery of State Parliament amid ongoing argument over a same-sex social unions rally. Fiona Simpson recently issued an instruction signaling which she would say no for gallery usage to public if parliament security personnel had "convincing intelligence", which include protests outside Parliament.

The move appears after loud protesters were turned out from the gallery in the month of June as MPs argued moves to water down similar-sex civil union laws. Speaker Simpson later on banned TV cameras from the recording all actions until past August after they broadcast and filmed the gallery protest against parliamentary system.

President of Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ), Paul Bell, told the LGAQ conference in the Ipswich that the state had never experienced such kind of a disaster in terms of " scale, costs and extent'' as the ones that strike in the early days of year 2011. Mr. Bell said that the people will be asking questions at the upcoming big weather event on whether sessions from year 2011 had been learned.

He said that, rural and regional and Queensland councils away from the beach were particularly helpless to massive floods. Mr. Bell said in year 2011that, many coastal councils showed to have an inborn ability to face with problems of serious weather. He said that, many, like his own community of Emerald, didn’t have the knowledge to face with big floods.

Because of soaring energy prices due to gas shortage caused by export of CSG (coal seam gas) to Asia, residents of Queensland are clamoring to keep 15 % of the gas reserves for home usage of the state. Queensland Government Axing Taxi Subsidy Scheme

The earlier Labor government had assured to recompense cabbies $6.50 for each trip taken by any person in a wheelchair, helping to recompense drivers for income lost because of the extra time it takes to select up disabled consumers. It was expected the idea would lead to better consumer service for passengers with disabilities as well as eliminate "unmanageable operators" who were unwilling to respond to wheelchair jobs due to the extra effort as well as time involved.

Premier Campbell Newman Criticized For Spain Comparison

Premier Campbell Newman, in COAG (Canberra for the Council of Australian Governments) meeting, told media that Queensland was in danger of becoming "Spain of Australian states", whereas his tourism and treasurer minister were courting business in a foreign country. Mr. Newman made the comment to give good reason for why Queensland can’t afford to make a contribution to National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Wayne Swan, Federal Treasurer and Queensland's state opposition of Queensland have accused Mr. Newman of being reckless in his suggestion to Spain that, saddled with bad debts, which has the maximum unemployment rate in the industrialized world. Mr. Swan said that, nothing could be more damaging and reckless, not just to the Queensland financial system but to the national financial system, instead of the premier of our third-biggest state comparing the financial system in his state to Spain.
